Filling a Narcotic Prescription

When filling a narcotic prescription with repeats, it is recommended to specify an interval—the number of days that must pass before the prescription can be refilled.

To fill a narcotic prescription in PharmaClik Rx:

  1. Create a new narcotic prescription until you reach the Rx Detail stage.
  2. In the V/W field, type one of the applicable authorization methods:
    • V—designates a verbal prescription.
    • W—designates a written prescription.
    • Note: The system will prompt for a selection of “V” or “W” if the V/W field is not entered upon selecting Fill.

  3. Select the Extended tab.
  4. In the Interval days field, type an interval period for the prescription.
  5. Note: If a narcotic prescription is refilled before the number of interval days, the alerts section in Rx Detail will note “Prescription is being dispensed within the interval time period”.

  6. Select the Fill button.
  7. Note: The NMS checkbox will automatically be selected for any narcotic prescription to be submitted to the Narcotic Monitoring Service in Ontario. The PRN checkbox is selected automatically if PRN was typed in the SIG field.
